Bill and Denny McConnell

This story begins in the Summer of 1989, when The May Antique Mall was established. Just a few months later, Bill and Denny McConnell, antique lovers and long-time collectors, had the opportunity and good fortune to become the managers of the mall. On just a hand-shake and an oral agreement with the owner, they agreed that after two years, if successful in building the business, they could buy the business and lease the building. They were, indeed, so successful, that when their long-term lease ran out, they spotted the perfect building to purchase, renovate, move into and develop into what is today "Oklahoma's Premiere Antique Mall" - the 23rd Street Antique Mall.

The building that houses the 23rd Street Antique Mall was built in 1949 and for many years was the home of Adair's Tropical Cafeteria. Denny grew up just four blocks south from their building and remembers eating at Adair's when she was growing up. In fact, the McConnells now live just blocks away from the mall – so Denny has lived her entire life within just one square mile from their present location. In later years, the building was occupied by the Baptist Bookstore – but then laid vacant for several years with roof leaks, broken windows and over-grown parking lots. In spite of the deteriorated condition, the McConnell's recognized that would be a good location for an Antique Mall. With the help of their sons and a host of friends, they rescued the building and spent several months totally renovating inside and out. Virtually taking an "ugly duckling" and turning it into a "beautiful swan" - they raised it to the same level of quality as the merchandise they planned to showcase in this beautiful 11,000 square foot multi-dealer gallery.

Because of their central location and high-standards they set for their merchandise, along with their warm and welcoming personalities, they have made friends with dealers and customers from all over the United States who shop with them frequently and find it very convenient to freshen their inventories and add to their collections.

The welcome mat is always out - you just might become their "new best friend"! We know you will enjoy their showroom of quality antique items and everyone at 23rd Street Antique Mall wants this to be your favorite destination for antique shopping.
